12.30pm start for all season on Saturdays. (Reg 20.1, 20.2) (DROPPED)

WHAT'S THIS ABOUT?

Changing the time for start of play between end of October and end of march to 12.30pm.

DISCUSSION

This has been considered before.. and we decided against the change.

Main reason in favour is to allow 5.30pm finishes which lessens the chance of bad light problems. 

This table (DOWNLOAD LINK https://tinyurl.com/39ea4tv8 ) of sunset times for the coming season shows that 6pm finishes in Brisbane between 1 Nov and 30 Mar should be fine. 

 Cloudy weather and tree lined horizons make this less clearcut though.

Main reason against is the supposed too short time between morning junior games and afternoon senior games for:

• groundskeepers (junior game has to finish, pitch to be rolled etc, groundskeeper has 10 mins left to get to his game over the other side of town), 
• parent players with cricket kids and older cricket teenagers (transferring from morning game at (somewhere) to afternoon game at (somewhere else) 

...All in 30 minutes less than they used to.

 

Hmm.

• CCC has made a success of 12.30pm starts so why is it so hard for QSDCA? (CCC finish time is 6.05pm so this might the wrong point to argue....)
  

• The creation of Saturday afternoon cricket/footy/other sport is a hangover from the early 20th century when many people had Saturday morning jobs (not just retail but office jobs and manual work as well) leaving Saturday afternoons for recreation/free time.  

That idea is long gone in the third decade of the 21st century.

Is there a way to resolve this? Can we ask Junior cricket to end earlier? How?

There are numerous competing issues to resolve.  

In my view, unless there is an overwhelming approval (80-90% or more) from association delegates this is unlikely to change. 

I think there will be a strong urge to disregard this.
